After visiting Qingdao Catholic Church, head south on foot, and you’ll reach Zhongshan Road. Located in Qingdao’s old town, this area has been a bustling commercial district since the German occupation. Recently, it has become a hotspot for young Chinese and travelers, thanks to its blend of European-style architecture and traditional Chinese culture.
Zhongshan Road is filled with food stalls and cute shops, making it an enjoyable place to explore. It’s a great spot to buy gifts for friends and family or memorable souvenirs from your Qingdao trip. While some items are common, others are truly unique, so take your time and choose what catches your eye. Personally, I grabbed a PET-bottled beer and grilled squid while strolling. Instead of traditional Qingdao beer, I opted for a fruity one, which was refreshing and crisp.
Every corner here offers a perfect photo opportunity. Since cars are not allowed, it’s a comfortable and safe area for sightseeing. It’s also conveniently close to Qingdao Catholic Church, making it an ideal stop after your visit. Many shops stay open until 10 PM, ensuring plenty of time to enjoy your trip.
From Qingdao Catholic Church, Zhongshan Road, and Zhanqiao Pier are all within walking distance. Being in a straight line, they are perfect for a combined itinerary. Featuring early 20th-century European-style buildings infused with modern Chinese creativity, Zhongshan Road hosts unique events and offers a variety of distinctive items. Be sure to add this charming area to your Qingdao travel list!
