Let’s Dive Suburb! Part 2 The Water Garden Tour from Seoul물의 정원

Traveling to the suburbs near Seoul can have many motivations: seeking unique destinations off the beaten path, escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, or simply enjoying serene natural landscapes instead of towering buildings. If you’re looking for a place that fulfills all three, I highly recommend The Water Garden (Mului Jeongwon) as an ideal destination.

This park was established in 2012 as part of efforts to restore the Han River ecosystem. The Baetnaru Bridge, the iconic structure of The Water Garden, connects visitors to scenic walking trails along the Bukhan River and expansive flower fields. During the summer, vibrant poppies are in full bloom, while autumn showcases the stunning beauty of cosmos flowers. You can rent a bicycle to take in the scenery or enjoy a leisurely stroll hand-in-hand with your partner or children.

Open year-round and free of charge (except for parking fees), The Water Garden is a budget-friendly spot worth visiting. Plus, its accessibility via public transportation adds to its appeal. Simply take the Gyeongui-Jungang Line to Ungilsan Station, exit through Exit 1, and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the park.

Features of The Water Garden

Spanning an impressive 400,000 square meters (approximately the size of 70 soccer fields), The Water Garden features four distinct walking trails:

1. Riverside Walkway (Gangbyeon Sanchaek-gil)

2. Water Fragrance Path (Mulhyanggi-gil)

3. Water Glow Path (Mulbit-gil)

4. Water Heart Path (Mulmaeum-gil)

For spring or autumn visits, I highly recommend taking the Riverside Walkway, where you can enjoy the blooming flowers and breathtaking river views. If you’re seeking a tranquil escape to rejuvenate your body and mind, the Water Heart Path, which includes a Metasequoia-lined trail, is another fantastic option.
