Let’s SEOUL: Part 6 -Seoullo 7017/Cheonggyecheon/Seochon/Dream Forest/Oil Tank Culture Park

 Seoul Station and Nearby Gems

Seoul Station is a major hub for foreign tourists, connecting Incheon Airport via trains and airport limousines while serving as a starting point for trips to other cities. Nearby, you’ll find Seoullo 7017, a scenic elevated walking path transformed from a 1970s overpass. Originally slated for demolition, it was repurposed into a pedestrian-friendly space by Seoul’s urban planners. Offering stunning views of the city skyline, Seoullo 7017 is a leisurely 2-3 hour walk, perfect for visitors of all ages. For more information and walking tour reservations, check here.

Cheonggyecheon Stream

Another popular walking route is the Cheonggyecheon Stream, an 8-kilometer urban oasis. Don’t be intimidated by the length—you can enter and exit at various points. The stream offers a tranquil escape while connecting landmarks like Dongdaemun and DDP. Starting mid-route is entirely fine, making it a flexible addition to your itinerary. With 22 bridges along its path, you can enjoy iconic spots like Insadong, Deoksugung Palace, and Gwangjang Market. Be sure to follow signs for key landmarks. For more details, visit here.

Seochon: A Historic Gem

Located west of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seochon (literally “West Village”) is a charming neighborhood steeped in tradition. Known for its narrow alleys, historic shops, and hanok houses, it has been a favorite of artists and filmmakers alike. Visitors can even stay in a hanok for an immersive experience. If your plans include Gyeongbokgung or Bukchon Hanok Village, a stroll through Seochon is highly recommended. For additional tips, check this guide.

Dream Forest

While Seoul Forest is well-known, the lesser-visited Dream Forest offers a serene retreat in northern Seoul. Once the site of the Dream Land amusement park, it is now the city’s third-largest park. Featuring an art center, exhibitions, restaurants, and a 49.7-meter observatory, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Bukhansan, Suraksan, and Dobongsan mountains. For information on getting there, refer to the official website or its English guide.

Oil Tank Culture Park

The Oil Tank Culture Park embodies the slogan “Oil to Culture.” Once a petroleum storage site, this repurposed industrial space now houses performance venues, exhibition halls, and community areas. Its unique architecture and vast outdoor spaces make it a hidden gem for cultural enthusiasts. For transportation tips, visit the official site or its English introduction.
